What is the NeoGen Plasma Skin Regeneration?
Plasma skin resurfacing (PSR) uses plasma to deliver heat to a targeted treatment areas to achieve skin rejuvenation without affecting the surrounding tissues as Fractional and Ablative CO2 do. PSR uses a ultra-high frequency (UHF) generator to convert inert nitrogen gas into activated ionized gas, which is called plasma.
Currently the Neogen™ Plasma Skin Regeneration (PSR) System is the only device being commercialized which uses plasma for a skin rejuvenation indication.
High energy treatments (PSR3-or level 3) are used to achieve skin tightening and skin contouring, while lower energy treatments (PSR1 & 2) are used to treat the early signs of ageing, such as age spots, lines and wrinkles. The High energy treatment needs a 10 days to 2 weeks downtime, But the lower energy treatments done in a series of 4-6 treatments achieve the same results with minimal downtime.
Quite simply the system works by penetrating the deep layers of the dermis and remodeling creating new and rejuvenated skin, erasing signs of ageing and pigmentation and various issues. The beauty of the device is that the downtime is minimal leaving the epidermis and dead dermal layers intact while achieving a rejuvenation similar to traditional CO2. The skin acts as a barrier or band-aid to protect the new skin, as it slowly emerges after treatment.
The System & The Treatment
After a thorough Medical history, and detailed consultation, and pictures taken, we start the procedure.
To reduce discomfort and any pain associated with the treatment at the lower levels a topical anesthetic will be applied to the skin before treatment begins to numb the area. Stronger treatments have a different protocol, which we can discuss later.
During treatment, the practitioner will pass the handpiece over your skin, delivering targeted plasma energy across the epidermis or outer layer of skin. You will experience a feeling of heat during treatment, though it should be relatively painless.
The collagen regeneration process typically begins almost immediately with some visible, tightening results seen straight after treatment. The results, however, will not be seen until your epidermis, or outer layer of skin, sloughs off revealing new youthful skin.
