Winter Skin care tips

Updated: Oct 4, 2019

The winter months affect all of us in different ways, from dry, flaky skin on the face and body, to chapped lips. The correct skin care routine and good habits though can help you maintain good skin care during the winter months. Cold winter air can dry your skin up, so moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.

Make sure your skin is hydrated appropriately during these cold months. Cold air can cause dry, flaky, itchy skin caused by transepidermal water loss. Few changes to your skin care routine can help eliminate all these problems and carry you through the winter months with no problem at all.

Change shower habits

Hot water showers and baths may sound and feel good but avoid this luxury and this movement from cold to hot does not do your skin any favors. Shower or bath in lukewarm water and moisturize your skin immediately after you get out of the shower or bath.

Use soaps with a cream base that dont lather. You dont want to strip your skin of any oils. Creamy soaps or shower creams aid in keeping the hydration in the skin. Your skin wont feel dry, flaky or itchy.

Moisturizers

Moisturizers should now be moved from lotions in the summer time to creams, to give your skin that extra moisture and protection from the cold weather conditions. Remember your lips too. Cold weather does not have a very pretty effect on your lips. Use a good lip treatment cream. Check out Epionce products - they have the best skin care for every condition and their science is evidence based.

Sunscreen

Whether there is sun or not, as sun damage is the most prevalent form of aging.

If you suffer from acne, then reduce the number of times you use BP or Salicylic and these products dry your skin out immensely. Add on a gentle moisturizer to your routine to prevent added dryness.

Avoid Alcohol based products that touch your skin. Alcohol is drying and doubly compounds the effects of the cold weather reaction on your skin.

Enjoy fireplaces, sure. But try not to over indulge in that as again the heat will dry your skin up.

As my mom always said, Everything in moderation is fine. Over indulging always has consequences.

To summarize, enjoy the lovely cold winter months, just make a few subtle changes to sail through without any issues.
